Proceed with caution

Yes indeed. Do not get extremely drunk and then attempt to blog. What was i thinking. The shopping here in Edinburgh is insane! I have not seen such activity since my mom and dad used to take us into New York City! Truly amazing. Saw James Bond movie last night for the second time, and I must admit the whole thing wasn’t very impressive. Also, I couldn’t figure out why everyone thinks Halle Berry is the business. She really is just another good looking skinny girl with ample flesh in the right places!

Mia Culpa: not

ok. so you source out resouces to make a task work. Prince2 readers will no doubt find this completely assinine.

Been out in Edinburgh tonight and have noticed hilarity ensues as always. Why is when I dress like a bum people don’t hesitate to give me money?

Change business structure, integrity and incorporate some flat out rules – you end up with Ians worst nightmare! All jokes aside, someone tried to appoint me as a primary business resource only though I have been at the company two months.

The dark overlord, supreme commanfer, number one at helm of this blog will testffy that idiotic corporate notions cannot be met. Hence my fear. I wish I was M. Frost, thus negating the need for something better than sliced bread.

PS to Ians Mother: Good job. I think he is a good ‘un. Mrs.Pattinson I am drunk

Live for the weekend?

Dutch researchers have found and quantified ‘vacation illness’ and ‘leisure illness’, where workers feel wiped out in their time off and are more likely to contract diseases. I can never complete everything that needs doing of a weekend, and the first few days of a holiday are given over to crashing after the stress of work.

Hey, I'm here

Not much to say really. Had the invite to join for a few days now and thought it’s about time I did something about it. I don’t surf anywhere near as much as the rest of this team, so don’t expect to see that much from me. I’ll concentrate on quality instead…..

Think I’ll start with some translation sites – how about one that translates English into Swedish Chef speak, Jive or Valley Girl.

Or better still, another that translates a web page. Spinneyhead doesn’t look too bad in Redneck – something ominous about that!

Taking our jobs?

Can more people please realise that we’re part of the world, a great way to solve the problems of an ageing population is to let in the working age immigrants who want to come here and that culture is a gloriously fluid thing that changes with each generation anyway, so we don’t risk losing our ‘unique British’ one.

The fact that immigrants contribute more to the Exchequer in taxes than they take out in public spending may surprise many Tory politicians, not to mention readers of the Daily Mail and other jingoistic tabloids. But this is one of the many important conclusions of detailed research commissioned by the Home Office and published this week in the first of a series of studies into the economic and social impact of immigration.

Meanwhile, it’s good to know I’m still eligible to be called a ‘young novelist’, and will be for another seven years. Now I just need to get published.

Geeky tech stuff

Ian originally declared that I would be providing ‘cool tech reports’ and so far most of my posts have been odd news stories. So here goes with some vaguely tech stuff:

Gran Turismo on the PS2 has prompted Japanese sports car makers to start to market their wares outside Japan. As a result of the game the Subaru Impreza will be appearing in the US and the Mitsubishi Evo series and Nissan Skyline GT-R will be properly marketed in Europe and the US.

Oftel have released their latest complaints figures. To say BTOpenworld aren’t doing well would be a slight understatement.

Interesting times

George and co’s efforts to make everyone crap themselves over ‘weapons of mass destruction’ seem to be working. I just received the renewal documents for my home insurance. There are some amendments to my policy covering war and terrorism. I am no longer covered for:

damage to life or property by any means, including but not limited to nuclear, chemical, biological or radiological means when these activities are carried out wholly or partly for political, religious, ideological or similar reasons

When your insurers feel it’s worthwhile protecting themselves against claims for when your flat is nuked, then it’s time to worry.

Cooking

Ok. Although I have been reading one particular blog for four years now, I am a bit disappointed in SpunOne of the Fazed.net variety. I have realised that his website is a reflection of his social life. Whereas before his girlfriend left him on the spot one day to go to Boston, the nasty woman illfated, his site was a pandoras box of good commentary, links and his own media archive. Now that she has been gone for a year, SpunOne has decided to use the Fark.com model and avoid talking about his personal life altogether. Funny, when reading his site before, I thought I knewthe man better than some of my own friends. This sums it up: What happened to the SpunOne and if you are hiding him there will be big jihad!

Bands won't play no more

After my earlier post about Cyprus, I had a vague recollection of ghost towns on the UN enforced border separating Northern Cyprus from the Republic of Cyprus. One such town is Famagusta. Before the invasion, the town was a popular beach resort, but it was abandoned in a hurry. Despite the abandonment, the town still has a chamber of commerce and a football team, waiting for the day they can return.
I love the idea of ghost towns, and one day I will get round to visiting a few. MetaFilter has a handy thread of links about just this subject.
