The Bigfoot Defense
Should you ever face a judge in Bennington, Vermont, do not try the “Bigfoot Defense.” Mark Zielinski is charged with grossly negligent driving. His van crossed the center line on Route Seven in Shaftsbury last year, hitting another van head on, and killing the driver. Zielinski’s lawyer was arguing that prosecutors have no way of knowing if he was trying to avoid an obstacle in the road. At one point, the attorney asked a police officer on the witness stand; “Haven’t there been Bigfoot sightings in that area?” The judge immediately stopped that line of questioning. The Bennington Banner tells us some people have reported seeing something resembling the legendary Sasquatch at the highest elevation along Route Seven.
