I love the smell of roast coffee in the morning. It smells of….. breakfast.

I’ve been in a bit of a rut for the last few days. I’m getting the coursework done, but nowhere near as fast as I ought to. I needed to get out of the house. In fact, I needed to do one of my hundred things.

Venus sells raw green coffee, so off I headed. Of course, I had to get cash first, and that turned into a cattle rustling adventure in itself (pictures later). Eventually- via Whitworth Park, Oxford Road, Castlefield and the Central Library- I arrived at the shop. I love Venus. It’s a lot like shopping in a different country. Many of the products only have the barest of English descriptions, some have none at all. One kilo of green coffee cost £3.99, which is great value.

I used techniques described here, though we don’t possess a CO2 fire extinguisher, so I just crossed my fingers and hovered over the pan.

How did it taste? Well, it wasn’t the best coffee I’ve ever had, but the simple fact that I roasted it elevated it. It was a lot like the roast coffee I’ve bought from Venus, suggesting the same beans, with the occasional burnt overtones (there’s a surprise).

Another one down. Now I have to replace it. Any suggestions for thing 103, please leave them in the comments. (I reserve the right to refuse any.)
