Excavation of WWI Messines model to go ahead this year : Archaeology News from Past Horizons
In a project led by Staffordshire County Council and funded by Natural England, a large concrete terrain model on Cannock Chase, representing a section of the Great War battle of Messines Ridge, is to be excavated.
The battle of Messines Ridge took place in June 1917 near Ypres in Belgium; the terrain model in Staffordshire represents the section of the front captured by New Zealand troops.

The Staten Island Boat Graveyard – officially called Witte Marine Scrap Yard or Arthur Kill Boat Yard – is the final resting place of dozens of rusting, rotting, abandoned and decommissioned vessels. Rossville’s last commercial maritime salvage yard, the semi-submerged boats are popular with local urban explorers and others interested in Staten Island’s maritime history.
