Uninvited Guests, page 6

Artistically, this page was about trying to improve my abilities with faces and consistent likenesses. I’ve still got a way to go, I know.

Story wise, this is an attempt at a montage. William is meeting people he hasn’t seen for a while, updating them on how things are going, and telling the same story to them all (slightly different with each iteration). You get to meet supporting characters, and read some back story as well.

Uninvited Guests, page 4

After the cold open, the splash page.

This isn’t as busy as I’d like. Part way through drawing it, I looked at a photo of a table I took at a wedding last year, and realised there should be way more glasses and other stuff. I added a bunch of details in, but it’s still not as packed as I want.

I didn’t pencil this, either, working from 3D models imported into Manga Studio. I think they’ll be useful for background elements, but don’t really work as the main focus of the image.

I learn a bit more with each page, though, so- onwards!

Uninvited Guests, page 3

As well as digitally inking this page, I also sketched the figures from my Daz posed reference images, rather than using the light box to trace their proportions, when I did the pencils. It feels freer this way, though I wish I’d done a better job on Rosemary’s mother in the third panel. All the pages, and the script, are open to revision later on, when I’m more confident of my art, or need to come back and make changes for the sake of continuity.

Sunday Morning Manchester Ride

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while. Today, I finally got around to it.

Getting up at 4am, I had a cup of tea, pumped the bike’s tyres up to a good running pressure, and headed into Manchester city centre. I videoed my ride around some random streets, and added some music, and here it is.

Okay, it’s no C’etait Un Rendezvous, but I had fun. If someone would like to lend me an electric motored mountain bike, and maybe some GoPros, I’d have a go at a point to point across the city centre, with a higher speed up the hills, and overall. (I might set out later, though. I hadn’t expected there to be so many people still around at 5am. Maybe at 7 or 8, the clubbers would mostly have made it home, and there’d be fewer cabs on the road.)

Where you can buy my stuff

I thought it would be a good idea to collect together a list of the various places you can find my creations, so you can see all the cool things I’ve created, and buy loads of them.

Books

The obvious place to start. Under my own name, I’m selling on Amazon and Smashwords. These are the two shops I upload to directly, but Smashwords also distributes them to Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and more. They’re also available from Apple iBooks, but I can’t link directly to my books, I think you’ll need an account to search for me. Do a search on your favourite ebook shop, and you’ll probably find me. If your local library gets their ebooks through a service called Overdrive, you can borrow my books from them.

As Garth Owen, I’m on Amazon and Smashwords. And, of course, there’s also Barnes & Noble, Kobo, and more. They’re also on Apple iBooks, and others. He’s on Overdrive as well.

I have two other pen-names, for naughtier stuff. Mary Tales (Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, Kobo), and May Slater (Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, Kobo). Several of May’s books are exclusive to Amazon.

Patreon

As well as this Patreon, I also have one for Mary Tales. It has two tiers, instead of three, and patrons get to see my current work in progress, and early access to a comic I’m creating over there as well.

Art, Design, and Photos

I use Redbubble to sell my designs and photographs printed on clothes, cards, and more.

Hand made and physical items are available from my Zibbet shop, which includes cool vintage stuff I’ve found, as well as my own creations.

My 3D designs, mostly modelling components, can be ordered from Shapeways. I started out creating bits I needed for my own and my father’s projects, but I’m expanding the range now based upon input from other modellers. If you have something particular you’d like to see built, drop me a line on the site.

Vintage and Collectible

Zibbet isn’t the only place where I sell interesting old stuff. I’ve got several listings for old postcards and other cool stuff on Delcampe. The front page of my shop could be better laid out, but it’s a good auction site once you get into it.

Patreon

If you’d like to help keep my cash flow level as I create the stuff you love, then you can support me on Patreon. Patrons at the basic level ($1 a month) get to see my current work-in-progress as it develops. There are also $2.50 and $20 a month levels. $2.50 gets you early access to the comic I’m working on, and ebooks when they’re published. $20 supporters will get signed paperbacks. The more support I can get, the more time I can give to the projects, and supporters will get more stuff, faster.
