Insurgency

American and British special forces have been in Iraq for at least four months, according to this Australian article. But the Aussies have kept out.

Australia is believed to have a policy of not sending special forces on covert operations into hostile countries, but the spokeswoman described this as hypothetical.

Doesn’t that sort of spoil the effect of having such units in the first place?

And the Beat Goes On…..

Whilst back at the office trying to figure out what I am supposed to be doing these days, I have come across some cool things. First, take a look at what eight years of trekkie investment can get you. Now, I have been really questioning some things in my life recently, and when I was looking around for some guidance, I was fo’ shizzle the shiznet be lucky to ask da man Snoop fo’ advice fools.

Found out that I am in a retro period of my life, and was lucky enough to find 1000s of MAME games from the past through one single emulator. Bring on the donkey kong and qbert.

Thinking about Iraq and the mythical War on Terrorism, I was a bit amused by this story which highlights that the massive search for five suspected Al queda members going into the States from Canada was a government hoax. Apparently, nobody has even seen these guys anywhere but in the newspapers…Funny how that works.

Something to keep everyone amused.

Cart/ Donkey

Even a cursory examination of North Korea would make you think it is a larger threat than Iraq, so why aren’t we hearing the same sort of rhetoric aimed at Pyongyang. There might be fears that NK has nukes that it wouldn’t be afraid of using as a last ditch thing, but the current war hungry atmosphere means they’re unwilling to find a talking answer either.

Chicken****

An important part of Sounds of Soldiers is going to be the increasing desire of politicians to dictate what, and how, the military attacks. Suck, takes a look at the strange Gulf War 1 plans of Dick Cheney

What if we parachute the 82nd Airborne into the far western part of Iraq, hundreds of miles from Kuwait and totally cut off from any kind of support, and seize a couple of missile sites, then line up along the highway and drive for Baghdad?

War Games

America’s REMFs prepare for war and practice the high intensity staring at computer screens that will be required of them come operation Enduring Oilwells.

Iraq tries to hit the UN with information overload on WMDs, hoping to string things out long enough for Bush’s ADD to kick in and some other country to distract him. Meanwhile, the US claims to have evidence proving the dossiers invalidity, but refuse to reveal it so as not to endanger their sources- a claim that rings a little hollow when the inspectors have the power to take anyone and their families out of the country for interview.

I went to see Bowling for Columbine today. This is Michael Moore on top form, highlighting the lunacy of gun culture and raising other issues that aggravate the problem of violence. It made me incredibly angry, even though I’m on the other side of the Atlantic.

I’m currently reading about how the military weapons manufacturers lobbied and helped distort American policy just so they could keep on feeding at the trough, even after those policies were shown to backfire so horribly in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. Perhaps the NRA is just the small arms industry’s way of keeping business flowing, arm them all and damn the consequences so long as the balance sheet looks good.
