I don’t think the commute is any shorter by bike in the morning- there’s not that much traffic at the time i come in- but it definitely is in the afternoon.
I hit 23.5 miles per hour this morning, for a very short spurt. I’m going to try to beat it tomorrow.
Heh. Keep at it, Ian. My average over the hilly 3.55 miles to work is usually around 14mph, peaking at about 27 if the traffic’s okay. 32mph is my record on that route. 😉
Do you have pass many traffic lights? Stopping at junctions has a disproportionate effect on average speeds as measured by bike computers. My average in rural areas or long roads is about 18mph, but in towns it drops to about 14mph, because of the stops, not because I ride any slower.
Not that I’m obsessive about it 😉
Lots of traffic lights, and it’s also the busiest bus route in Britain. It’s a lot like dodging moving buildings.
Right now it’s all moot as the bike’s front wheel was nicked last night.
