Bluetooth bandits

The moral of the story is- turn off your laptop when you’re not using it, standby is silly (and wasteful, but that’s a different moral).

CUNNING thieves are thought to be using Bluetooth wireless technology to help them find laptops and phones hidden in the boots of cars and vans.

While previous advice has been to hide valuables out of sight, now officers are warning people to remove them or turn off the Bluetooth system.

The warning comes after a laptop which had been on standby was stolen from a car in Water Street in the city centre. It is thought that while the thief could not see it, he was able to detect it with a Bluetooth phone, which picked up the computer’s signal.
