Dobbin has gone to a good home, because the Food Standards Agency have tested various salamis and found them to contain horse meat.

Steve Bridgeman, a director of (wholesale firm) Alvini, said: We are shocked because this is not supposed to be horse and we are fully aware of the attitude of the British people to horses. We have contacted the firm and they were unhappy, too. They think the salami could only have been contaminated by a dirty knife. Horse and donkey meat fetch premium prices and should have not got anywhere near this lower- value product.

The folks I worked with at the hospital were putting together a trial scheme to text patients and remind them of appointments. It was a rather funky bodge involving a mobile, a lead into the back of a PC and a bit of in-house written code. I wasn’t around long enough to see how it panned out, but it can’t have been bad, because there’s now a national initiative to run a similar, sponsored, scheme.
