Bank Holiday viewing

Elektra

This could have been another Catwoman, but turned out a pleasant surprise. It’s not a great movie, or even a particularly good one, all the major plot points can be seen coming a mile off and it takes itself far too seriously. However, it is far better than Berry’s Razzie, not least the fact that it sticks more closely to the origin in Frank Miller’s Daredevil run.

Mallrats

Kevin Smith’s “difficult” second film. Still more fun than most other movies.

Donnie Darko

I can see about four different explanations for this movie’s story, each of them valid but not perfect. I reckon the best thing to do is just sit back and enjoy it as a mood piece.

Previously-

Alien vs Predator

Another film that could have been dire but turned out okay. The 15 rating means there’s not as much gore as some might want, and it’s a hard push to reconcile it with the previous Aliens. But there are some nice touches, like Lance Henrikson playing the billionnaire industrialist the Bishop android is based upon and a neat set up for any sequel.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse

I could say this is the best of all the game based movies, but that would be unfair. The first movie was a bit like watching someone play a video game- cut scene, violence, cut scene, violence, cut scene, boss- this has more story to it, and feels less claustrophobic now the action takes place in Raccoon City and not the hidden base beneath it.

Delay cycle

The Government has chosen to delay implementation of an EU law requiring recycling of computers and other coonsumer electronics. Apparently the suppliers and retailers won’t be ready until next year, when the law is supposed to come into effect in August. How long have they had to prepare for this and are other countries having similar problems?
