Every so often a local paper will do a human interest story about modellers, trying to explain the dedication that goes into taking 12 years to build a railway layout. The subject almost always comes off as a little obsessive, but that’s in the nature of the hobby.

Digest- the Spinneyhead food, diet and health blog- will be launching later this week. Amongst the planned features, my sister is going to be writing up her experiences of growing food in a small city garden and the urban opportunities open to the keen epicurean. In the mean time, Off Grid reviews books dedicated to “Wild foods”.

It’s going to be a long time before I can afford to build my own eco-house, or own an ordinary one to make more efficient. Until then I’ll have to get by trying to green up rented places. The Independent assesses the cases for and against various organic foods. Organic milk, pork and chicken are definitely better, whereas with fruit and veg the important thing is to eat, or freeze, them as soon after harvesting as possible.

How to survive a zombie attack. And to see if you were paying attention, there’s a test. I came out as 65% survivor, but I did have to shoot a few friends in the head when they were bitten.

Apologies for the disappearance, but Casa Spinneyhead was temporarily without broadband. I was all listless and confused. But, on the plus side, I did finish one book and am halfway through Going Postal already. Reviews to follow.
