This is a walk I’ll probably be taking later this year. Retired civil engineer Paul Dunkerley has put together a two mile wander around Castlefield and Deansgate to introduce people to Manchester’s industrial heritage.

Rain gardens, shallow depressions containing bark mulch and shrubs, can remove up to 99% of toxins from rainwater run off. With built-up urban areas generating nine times more runoff water than woodlands of a similar size anything that can act as a buffer has to be welcomed.

A happy sea mammal story- Marra the dolphin had been in Maryport marina for a month before divers caught it and took it out to sea. In proper happy ending style it immediately found another dolphin and frolicked off into the sunset.

I put this Beetle together yesterday. It’s a slightly improved version of my earlier version. (In fact it’s the Beetle used as a comparison for the previous one.) One of the guys on the SAM Publishing stall at Bolton IPMS suggested I should write up something about one of my mini customs and it might make it into the magazine, so I won’t go into details here. I think the lighting in some of the shots is a little poor so I may try again with more lamps.

Sea levels could rise by 30 centimetres by the end of the century if current trends prevail. An Australian study found that sea levels rose by 19.5cm between 1870 and 2004, with accelerated rates in the final 50 years of that period. Extrapolation gives the worrying century’s end figure.
