Home Power

Home Power magazine, the hands-on journal of home-made power, grew out of our passion for renewable energy (RE). We’re concerned about a world that is increasingly polluted. We’re concerned about the high energy use and waste of “developed” cultures. And we’re concerned that people are dependent and unable to care for themselves when it comes to energy. Renewable energy gives people control over their energy future by using energy that is provided daily by nature.

Unstuck

At last, a US judge with a brain and a backbone! A school district in Georgia has been told to remove idiotic “Evolution is just a theory” stickers from school text books. Someone should start suing to have pagan and other Creation myths taught in religious studies. See how the God botherers like it when told that the Earth was as likely shat out of the great goat’s arse as bodged together in six days by a man with a beard.

Going Ape

There’s a Judge Dredd story where a scientist accidentally releases one of his concoctions and the inhabitants of a city block start devolving. The closer to the centre of infection, the farther back along the chain until the scientist himself is nothing more than a blob of protoplasm, which Dredd promptly arrests.

Someone’s let the Dover, Pennsylvania school board get a sniff of the elixir and they’re rapidly turning into amoebae. At least the teachers they’ve ordered to talk up the non-science of Intelligent Design are far enough up the tree to still have backbones.

Take a seat

Another new Spinneyhead Scale product- the 1:24th/1:25th scale grotty armchair.

Every small garage has a comfy chair in the corner for customers or smoke breaks. Usually a cast off, found in the street or rescued when seventies orange was no longer fashionable, it’s oily, ripped and has collapsed springs.

This plaster model allows you to have one of these seats for the corner of your garage diorama. Imperfections in the mould and material mean no two will be quite the same. Paint it tasteless colours and let bits of white show where the stuffing is escaping.

Frightened to death by Blossom

I’m doing some character designs for the fairies of Frightened to Death by Fairies. First out of the renderer is Blossom. (Warning, the small amount of cloth she’s wearing is a bit diaphanous, rendering the image borderline NSFW.)

The intention is for each fairy to be a character in its own right. The register actually recorded four people frightened to death by fairies over a period of years, so there will be one image for each of these deaths and the same fae folk will keep turning up in them.

There are also two different tribes of fairy- the butterfly wings and the dragonfly wings. The Bs got the North side of Lamplugh and the Ds rule the mean lanes of the Southside. The politics of it all, and how they relate to the Will o’the Wisp and Scallow Beck Bogle, is far too complicated to go into right now.
