Stating the bleeding obvious

At the university of Chicago research has shown that the male sex hormone is easily triggered. Did they actually need to do research to figure this out?

“The more a man’s hormone level shot up, the more attractive he later admitted to finding the research assistant. The men who she judged to be doing the most to try to impress her proved to be those who registered the biggest jump in testosterone levels.”

Really? I would have never guessed!

Recovery

Every so often, Brian has to go down to IBM’s offices in Warwick to simulate/ test the disaster recovery systems his company uses. this year he moblogged the experience. Long weekend- Friday, Saturday, Sunday and some pictures of the experience.

The permalinks are being a bit whacky, you may have to scroll around to get to where I intended to send you.

Mailwash

Since my last XP update has done some sort of terminal damage to SpamPal I’ve had to find new spam protection. Enter Mailwasher, which is one up on SpamPal in that it flags and deletes spam from the server. I know with broadband that my mail bandwidth worries are minimal, but this has to be a far better solution for people on dial up. Plus, the single account version, all most people will need, is free.

History Repeating

The following incoherent rant will only really mean anything to Mr. Ottesen. Everyone else look away………………. now

Aaaaagh! Salesmen! Commission payments! Bonus structures! Payroll weeks! Payroll Weeks! Oh Dear God the payroll weeks! When will the madness end?

Thank you. We now return you to our scheduled programme.

I wandered through the shiny new Bullring earlier. It’s a very impressive building, a very nice shopping centre. Absolutely no shops of any interest, but a very nice building. And it gave me today’s pic of the day-

I haven’t officially joined in with NaNoWriMo, though I did get some writing done on the train. I think I might keep my involvement informal and just try to get something done by the end of the month.

Charley's War

Issue 3 of the excellent Terrible Sunrise is now available. I read the first two a few years ago and was blown away by the scope of Stan Martin’s undertaking.

He’s trying for nothing less than to tell the story of the First World War from the points of view of several of the participants. This is being done by concentrating on the fortunes of volunteers from on English market town. It looks like it could easily rival Charley’s War, the other great Great War comic strip, which is currently being reprinted in the 2000AD Megazine. (This site kept being referenced in my search for Charley’s War info, but it’s on Tripod and I was told that it had exceeded its allocated bandwidth. try again tomorrow.)

Photos

Pictures galore. Above, you can photograph sparklers with a phone cam. And they come out quite well with Night Mode’s longer exposure too. Almost as well as the digicam can do fireworks if you let it get up to speed.

I’ve been adding stuff to the September, October and November galleries.

On Tuesday night I went to see Jim Bob, formerly of Carter USM, at Night & Day. He was doing an acoustic busking session which turned out Carter faves. I have a few photos of him in the Other Photos gallery and (and I don’t know if this will work) a short video of him doing The Impossible Dream. (Edit. It’s an AVI, I’ve found I can right click and Save As, but IE doesn’t know how to play it.) (Edit 2 This post is now my belated entry for Photo Friday. The theme is Night.)
