It seems the guys at Penny Arcade were more worried than me about potential changes to Star Wars but in the end all George did was clean up some of the more hokey looking effect shots from the Special Editions and redub Fett and the Emperor with the actors who voiced them in earlier/later episodes. But Hayden Christian has replaced the old dude as Anakin in the Jedi ghost shot at the end.

China has some of the highest mountain ranges in the world, with some of the largest glaciers- including one field which is only dwarfed by the Arctic and Antarctic. In the past 24 years these glaciers have shrunk by 5.5%, and the melt is speeding up.

Diebold’s voting machines, already considered dubious in the extreme, produce totals and data on a Microsoft Access based system! Now, this isn’t a knee jerk anti Microsoft rant- for a while I made a healthy living getting Access to do some fairly complicated things- but the program just isn’t up to the job. If you’re doing something as important as calling an election, and no doubt getting a lot of money to build the system, you don’t use a desktop database to tally up the numbers. Oracle, or something with equivalently strong security is what you need.

Inspired by Super Size Me and yesterday’s car free day, I picked up a cheap stepometer. I’m going to try and track my daily walking and cycling, stick them in a spreadsheet and see if it makes any sense. Today’s been a terrible start because mostly I’ve been staring at the computer screen, but I reckon it’ll all balance out because I have days when I walk many times further than the 10,000 strides that is recommended.
Time will tell.
